DIRTY LAUNDRY: Lemongrass

LET’S TALK DIRTY LAUNDRY

Laundry: Lemongrass

Lemongrass is one of my most used oils in my laundry. In addition to adding it to my amped-up Thieves Laundry Soap recipe, this little friend also comes in clutch for me alllll the time.

1. OVERDUE CHANGE-OVER: I’m an insanely busy mom of four littles (7 and under). I don’t multitask quite as well as I like to think, and therefore I am also the queen 👸🏻of forgetting to switch my laundry. Next thing I know, I’m opening my washer to that sour, mildew smell. ICK. So rather than waste laundry soap washing it a second time, I open the detergent tray and add 5-10 drops of Lemongrass (the low price tag is one of the reasons I love this oil because I USE it!). I run a rinse cycle and it’s fresh and ready to go.

2: ONLY THE BEST FOR OUR GUESTS

You know that stale smell of linens and towels that have been in storage too long? Lemongrass is an amazing tool for freshening those up! Toss them in your washer, add 5-10 drops of Lemongrass to your detergent tray, and run a rinse cycle.

3: YOU SMELL SO GOOD!!! I don’t use dryer sheets or fabric softener or anything scented in my laundry. Some people really miss having an aroma to their clothing. So I have a collection of half a dozen dryer balls, and each one gets 2 drops of Lemongrass (and sometimes Orange or Geranium) and tossed in for five minutes at the very end of my dryer cycle. My clothes AND my laundry room smell amazing!

4: YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE ☀️

If you line dry your clothes, use the following recipes to spray each garment so that they get the same aromatic spa treatment! I recommend using amber glass spray bottles that you can order on Amazon.

+OUTSIDE clothes line: 32oz spray bottle: fill with white vinegar and add about 15 drops of Lemongrass. Hang your clothing and then spray each piece. The vinegar will act as a fabric softener and the sun will evaporate the vinegar smell.

+INSIDE drying (that’s me!): fill a 4oz spray bottle with water and add about 8-10 drops of Lemongrass. Spritz each piece of clothing and hang to dry.
